Biology Topic 9 - Advice to future Biologists

Now that you have "survived" the first nine weeks of freshman biology, I would like for you to reflect on your experience thus far. If you could give next year's freshmen three pieces of advice that will help you succeed in this class, what would you tell them?

Biology Topic 8 - Conservation

I would like for each of you to go to our wiki: dcaendangeredspecies.wikispaces.com and look at 5 of your classmates' wikis. I would like for you to discuss on your blog those 5 endangered species. In addition, I would like for you to reflect on what you can do to help the conservation effort and whether you think it is even important.

Biology Topic 7 - Food For Thought

After today's food for thought activity, tell me what you think. Were you surprised at the differences in the populations of people world wide? Which population surprised you the most? Were you surprised about the differences in the amount of food in different regions of the world? Which ones surprised you the most? Do you now have a different perspective of what it means to be a North American?

After having watched these video clips, I want you to do a little research and tell me HOW can we stop this trend. Obviously, our human activities as well as the shear numbers of people on the planet are headed for a collision course. So, check out the web and come up with THREE possible solutions (that can help curb human population growth) that will not be offensive or infringe on basic human rights. In addition, if we don't do anything about human population growth, tell me THREE things that might happen to our planet long term.

Biology Topic 4 - Lab Report

Please discuss for me the mistakes you made in your pea germination lab report. What do you need to different on the next lab report? Did you utilize the rubric and the guidelines handout will writing this report? Do you now have a better understanding of what needs to be done better the next time?

Biology Topic 3

Tomorrow, you will start working on projects involving the various biomes of the world. The question I pose to each of you before we start is, what is it about a biome that makes it unique? Why is a desert a desert? Why is a rainforest a rainforest? What is it about them that gives them the unique characteristics that make them what they are?

You have just started an experiment where peas were soaked in water for 48, 24, 12, 6, and 1 hour respectively. Which one do you think will result with the most germination?
